Top 14 Day 2

Can't kick out like that, seemed aimed at the head from the evidence provided so the red was a pretty fair call.

Red card, you can't just kick someone who's holding you. Let the officials sort it out dont take the law into your own hands....or feet

Probably right but there was an awful lot of provocation!!

Think Castres have been really disappointing and the score actually flatters them.....they have played much better than this! Encouraging but nowhere near top form performance from ST but the season is long and hope they get back up there.....looks to me like Tialata is missing his "axoa de veau" in the Basque country.

Castres will have much better days than this one.........too good a club not to and Sivivatu must be a big loss!

definitely playing with a wet soap in the first half, things looked a whole lot better in the second...well, for Toulouse that is. They were so clinical around the 4th quarter you'd forget they had a red card.

Some very good signs going forward into this season after last week's survival contest:
they finally showed up in the rucks. They played tremendous defense where even when Castres were putting quickness, fluidity and direction changing into their otherwise very dire attacking, they'd get stopped eventually. No way through.
Some really cool movements from Toulouse, Huget and Fickou are "en jambes", are happy feet to start this season. Fickou showing good strength also, not just stepping.
Flood had an off game, and yes the rain hurt him but pretty off, had that one very nice no-look change-direction pass towards the end, good accuracy there.
Nice to see Médard with happy feet too.
And that lineout looks just brilliant with Harinordoquy and Nyanga. Imanol in particular manages to get sooo high.

It wasn't a masterclass display by ST but a lot of good elements moving forward.
For the C.O., looking miserable right now but I'm sure they will pick up the pieces. Look nothing like the team that beat Toulon in one final and stood tall to them in another.
Attacking must be reviewed, there's no reason they should be this flat with that backline, and both Tales and Lamerat had fine moments and looked good in one-on-one situations.

Castres will need to do smt about that scrum and the missing first choices there...having trouble against Toulouse ain't a good sign.

Is Jon Davies making his debut tomorrow then? Or has he already played?

Making his début tomorrow.

Sorry had to look after the Welshman in France ;)

haha cheers :D might try and tune into that one, be interesting to see how he goes!

hah. Well let's see what the dude can manage. He'll be in good company at least, not like Mike Phillips who was dropped in the middle of fkng Bayonne some time ago. Speakin of which, there are more Welshmen playing tomorrow in the hexagonal nation (the pic, not the vid):

Roberts ain't there though, guess he's injured.

Could be rotation too, doubt its anything serious or BBC Wales/WalesOnline would've been bleating about it.

Looking forward to Halfpenny playing for Toulon too, still wish he hadn't gone there but will again be very interesting to see how he does as well.

Looking at Toulon's 23 who's their backup scrum half?

bish, you crazeh ?! I ain't answerin' you about nothin' scrumhalf related after what you said about Doussain up there.
*random person in background* "awwww shieeeeeet.."

good win.

In the forwards my pick is Harinodorquy for his work at the breakdown, some good pilfering & good tackling. Got penalised twice wrongly IMO for high tackles that weren't there. Dodgy ref at times. Galan has shed weight. He is more nimble on his feet. Picamoles is explosive but i think Galan technically is a better player he's got gr8t hands & in the long run at only 23 has got a great future.
Poitrenaud was back to his full back position. That was a try. Ball came off his kneee not his hand. Ref should have gone upstairs and to specsavers.

Good game by Cory Flynn who's only just arrived last weekend from NZ. Excellent throwing considering he's only had one week to learn from scratch all the lineout calls. Never mind jet lag. Noves is a slave driver.

And there was only one winner in the Fickou vs Lamerat face up. This is why Lamerat couldn't get a game when he was at Toulouse.

Doussain picked up where he left last season. Good game from him. Put in some thunderous tackles. He is like an extra forward at times.
