The ball went forward but not the pass. It's as easy as that really. Momentum is allowed for in the laws as far as I know.

Wow that video really shows how rubbish North was in defence. I'm surprised people haven't made more of a deal out of it. If that was any other player they'd get crucified for a defensive performance like that.
