Well they know they'll lose to South Africa, but might have a chance against Samoa.

I think it's saying "We know we haven't got a chance in hell of beating South Africa I mean are you kidding we can't beat Italy. However we could also lose against Samoa and then egg really will on our faces."

If my memory serves me right they lost to Samoa in 2013, with only Hogg, Maitland and Gray off with the Lions?

If Samoa hit the same levels they did in 2011 then Scotland will have to be at their best to win.
