The first three rounds of the new Aviva Premiership season have been marked by a significant increase in scoring compared with last season.
The total number of tries scored has risen to 78, an increase of 56 per cent compared with last season and the average number per match is now 4.33.
London Wasps' flying winger Tom Varndell leads the way with four tries to his name already and is being hotly pursued by his Northampton Saints rival Chris Ashton, last season's Premiership Player of the Season, Schalk Brits of Saracens and Leicester Tigers' Scott Hamilton.
Yet this wave of attacking rugby is still producing close and dramatic finishes. Already this season 44 per cent of matches have finished with a winning margin of seven points or less.
This trend is set to continue over the next two weekends with some stand-out fixtures and with teams looking to improve their position ahead of the start of European competition.
The first three rounds of Aviva Premiership Rugby have also seen some of England's key performers in good form.
In addition to Chris Ashton's try scoring feats, Ben Foden leads the league in metres made with 310 metres for leaders Northampton Saints.

Nice bit of positive spin for once.
