Sam Burgess is down to be playing blindside flanker against Newcastle tomorrow, a move I've wanted to see since I heard of his arrival to union. It will certainly be interesting, and if he shows promise it is probably his best chance of making the England squad. Still unlikely, but we won't know until we see him.

Link? If it's true I'm sure news outlets will be reporting this about our lord and savior in double quick fashion.

I like the idea of him at 8 more than 6 but I'll accept that choice. My question is this run in are all games you'd expect Bath to win but do we really want to experiment with him there as Garvey has been playing well (picked up a ****le?). Anyway fair play if this works back row always looked better for him but I didn't expect to see it this season.

Hmmm Hooper and Eastmond injured, nice to see Stringer starting (why wasn't he starting at the weekend?)

Garvey second row over Attwood though? Ummm okay? I can only assume Attwood is knackered.

It's an odd pack, backs make sense.

Does Ford want Garvey in the second row though? I must say I feel it's our weakest position and Garvey is a good prospect there.

I would love to see Burgess given a shot in the back row, have we seen this rumour substantiated anywhere? I'm at work so can't really check the Bath message boards

EDIT: That is, does he want Garvey in the second row long term? Atwood aside, we do look weak there given the amount of rugby he's played, right now we look weak there Attwood included - he was ****e against Leinster. I don't blame him for that but he's shouldering a lot of the burden in a team trying to be a top level outfit while still kind of carrying two mid table journeyman locks. I think that's taken its toll

He is definitely starting at 6; http://www.therugbyblog.com/aviva-premiership-weekend-teams

Garvey would be a great lock for Bath, and if it means Burgess gets a chance at what could be his best position in union then I am all for it.

Burgess at 6 is very interesting. My interest is at lineout time, if he looks effective there than I would bet on him being in the world cup squad. He might be Lancasters perfect flanker. Work rate and physicality.

A lot of people want to see him at 8 as well, due to his monstrous physicality, but I like him at 6. He and Robshaw could really complement one another.

Well he would also be an interesting 8 but then I have heard (mainly by rats) that one of his big things is his work rate, putting him at 6 means he will hit more rucks but also gives him the opportunity at big runs. Just depends on how Bath want to use him.

i honestly don't know what to think about this, at Kingston park on that track it's gonna be a fast game?

why would you pick him against Falcons away on that 4G pitch to make his debut at 6?

will be interesting, will probably end up watching it if it's on BT

Work rate is the big thing. But it's not like a big work rate is going to be wasted in either position, either could work. Eight might get him running in the wider channels a bit more, which I'd like to see

Does anyone really think he can get into the English backrow given the vast wealth of talent we already have there? and if he did somehow get picked what would it say to players like Ewers who have unlike Burgess been playing really well.

And as for 8 we already have Billy and Morgan at a push Easter. Why are we so keen to slot him in somewhere?

I think Lancaster would favour Burgess over Everyone but Haskell, Wood and Clarke if he looks alright at 6.

Lancaster obviously has a thing for him hence his constant inclusion with the squad.

Having seen the path of destruction that this guy left in League, a lot of people want him to replicate that in Union. We know he has the power and the talent to succeed having seen what he can do, it is about finding a position where he can excel. Of course if he can't perform to those standards in Union then he won't be in the England side. But if we can find a way to use him to his potential, then we will benefit massively, there is no doubt about that.

RE: Garvey - him moving into the second row makes a lot of sense, given how stacked our back row is, and that we could do with a second rower. And tactically, we employ quick, hard running back rowers a lot and Garvey fits that description less than our other flankers.

And yes - workrate is his big thing, if he can figure out where he needs to be to be involved, you can be sure as **** he will have a large volume of "involvements".

Garvey certainly has the size about him he played lock quite a bit for Irish didn't he?

Talent?

Wood's gone mediocre, Haskell will never be a top international, I rate Croft but he's made of balsa wood... we currently have a vast wealth of international disappointment and anyone who can actually put together consistent top performances at 6 for England is free to walk into the team even if caught ******* into the coffee urn. I think it's the reason we're all so keen on Ewers, the current options are as useful as a rubber saw.

Obviously we don't know whether Burgess is ever going to be good enough but if he fulfills his potential, then yes, he'll be comfortably better than the current shower.

Oh, and it would say the likes of Ewers "Play even better" and Nick Easter will be packed off to an old people's home as soon as we can find one where the nurses won't keep slipping him viagra.

He plays well for his club then gets selected on merit there a young back row players who deserve a real shot at an England place and ave been playing well all season until Burgess can do that he doesn't get a look in

Maybe start him at 6, and move him to 8 once he's got a bit more experience in the back row? My concern is the learning curve for playing at 8, particularly with ball control at scrum time, and coordinating play with the scrum half.

True, England have a lot of talent in the back row already, but, would a player who can play in the back row and in the centres, be useful at RWC time?

I'm mainly thinking of him starting in pool games - the ones you know you're going to win already ... no, not all of them :)

Also, he could be useful off the bench ... just a question of if there's room for him in the squad
