The Biking thread

So, if you aren't doing anything wrong then nothing to complain about then Haskell. It's the MYOB attitude that is allowing fckers who use their phone behind the wheel to get away with it and in turn increase risk of accidents.

It's not about doing anything wrong, it's about the guys erection for posting it on YouTube.

He does the right thing in an incredibly wrong irritating manner.

Record them, report it. Shut up.

Hopefully he got done for damaging that car he shoved his bike into.

With also throwing himself on someone's car bonnet and jumping red lights. He's risking becoming like the people he goes after. A menace and accident risk.

He's already those things.

I'm amazed he hasn't been filled in already… although I've never seen him try and lecture a white van driver.

I saw him try and lecture people for having the nerve to not get out of his way on a shared pavement… he led with "In my country"… well we're not in your country you helmet.

Argument 1: vehicle tax, this was a direct lie and if the poster had scrolled down the page he displayed you would have seen a set of tax charges according to emissions, the highest being £2000. It is a criminal offence to drive a car on the road without car tax, even if the vehicle is exempt. It isn't termed road tax anymore but it does raise upwards of £9 billion a year which although goes to general taxation would be a significant portion of road funding.

Fact Check: Pants on Fire.

Argument 2: nearly all whinging by cyclists comes from the "elites" not the family cyclists, the elite cyclists are the ones most likely to ignore traffic laws and ride recklessly.

Argument 3: whilst roads do cost a lot more the usage per capita/ton puts the costs exponentially below cycle lanes, roads aren't just for cars but a vital part of the delivery mechanism of this country. Without roads you wouldn't get your bread and milk in shops. You don't cite any links for these "studies"

Argument 4: never, ever heard of this at all.

Argument 5: subjective, I had to laugh at the Daily Mail headline about cyclists ignoring a cycle lane as actually proving non cyclists point. In reality yes it's a smallish number of people in the same way it's a smallish number of cyclists whinging, and in fact this video is using exactly the same tactics that they accuse the anti cyclist of using. Again note none of the alleged cyclist polls are cited.

Also from the onboard camera, I consider this cyclist to be quite dangerous his speedo demonstrates he doesn't slow to cross roads or crossing, and he cuts diagonally dangerously from a pavement to a road.

This blows away a couple of his arguments, probably because it proposed a tax on cyclists.

To be honest, there was something quite satisfying seeing that cyclist twatted.

I was too annoyed watching the driver with video evidence driving past an accident he could easily have stopped at and helped the driver with evidence of idiotic cycling.

That oncoming driver is now more than likely on the hook for that accident!

He does post it after due process, so technically he's not doing anything wrong.

It creates clicks on YT. He has to recover costs somehow.

Record them, report it. Shut up.
That I do agree on. Let the police and the NIP do the job.
Hopefully he got done for damaging that car he shoved his bike into.
Not that I am aware of. Certainly wouldn't get anything from his insurance for damage to his bike.

But that's because he contributes massively to his own collision into the car and why he'll come off worse off. The fact he's a cyclist is beside the point. The point he's not paying attention to where he's going because he's so distracted and massively increasing risk.

I remember telling this kid (must have been about 12) that he should stop riding holding looking at his phone (this was on a shared path). All he said was - but you've got one. Mine is mounted and I pointed that out. But still he deflected and then rode off. This is the problem with our society - no accountability for their own actions; you tell others and you either get abuse or MYOB.

I never said he was doing something wrong. I said he was an annoying twat in the way he goes about it.

The whole tapping on someone's window… "errr, you're not supposed to be using your phone"

If you're going to send it to the police, then send it and get the **** out of my face.

Uploads it so he can sit back of an evening with his glass of hot squash and relive past victories hunched over a speeding fist.

Ive always found then idea of riders, probably mostly motorcyclists, who knock windows, and engage in demonishment of drivers wild...

In all my years of cycling and riding, the only times ive really engaged drivers outside of fun talk, is when my adrenaline has spiked through stupidity, and ive had a rant. Its not happened often to be fair, but the idea of telling someone off just baffles me, the sheer hubris.

Yeh I also said it's part of YT - conflict creates clicks and views. Boring if he's just riding past filming them. Also it's about evidence. He peers into the cars because often the driver will have it on their laps as they drive. Police won't take action unless the case is water tight.

The issue is not Cycling Mikey. It's the 10% plus drivers who admit using their mobiles whilst driving. Most of them know it is wrong but are addicted to it and are only "sorry" or may stop doing it if caught.

No reason to use your mobile whilst driving except in very exceptional circumstances and the cost of a mount is minimal.

You're reading what you want to read.

At no point have I said "the issue is cycling Mikey"

What I said, and I can't emphasise this enough, is that he's a twat.

You won't convince me otherwise so stop trying.

I am not. Up to you what you think of him. I am saying the ones who criticise him aren't seeing what the real issue is.that is mobile phone drivers who risk others on the road due to their selfish behaviour. That is the bigger problem on the roads. Not "*****" like him who choose to do this and then upload to YouTube. He also has to attend court when called on. That is up to him. Call it a public service.

FYI I wear a camera on the road and if I catch other phone drivers I'll report it without creating a fuss. Plenty of others also will and don't upload to YouTube. Only been called to court once and then she pled guilty. Wasn't in control of the car whatsoever - too busy texting and then tried to get out it by denying it.

I'm perfectly aware of what the issue is. I'm also aware of the issues he creates.

I can hold both views at once. Just because I think he's a dick doesn't mean I'm an advocate of using your phone while driving, I simply think you don't need to think you're Batman on a pushbike.

Great news, UK roads are getting safer for riders, the number of fatalities has dropped below 100 again, and down to 82 in 2024!

Just dont think about E scooters or E bike numbers, they dont count lol.

I went for a cycle yesterday around the vale of glamorgan, christ ive never felt so unsafe. Not just the number of scooters and Ebike flying in and out, general car driver anger seems to be up.
