The Biking thread

With Mikey there is a slight Narcissism about him. He loves the attention it brings him and being recognised for it. Didn’t agree with him
Pushing his bike in the path of that car.

Even though i do agree with his mobile phone driving cause. It’s become endemic out there and normalised. If i am in a position to catch a driver on their phone whilst they’re driving I won’t even alert them anymore. No point. They can find out the hard way when they open the NIP letter and explain the points to their insurance company.

But yes, cycle and drive better after watching Ashley’s videos.

We're not all bad.

The only argument I have, is the expectation a single ding if a hell, sounding quite loud on camera, doesn't translate if you're 25m away or others hearing difficulties.

I certainly wouldn't hear it, I suffer from tinnitus and have constant ringing in my ears.

Yeh it is down to the rider to slow down and judge when to ring their bell to alert a pedestrian.

I get a little irritated when pedestrians clearly ignore me or wonder on to the cycle side of a demarcated shared path. But got to remember that it is on me to take take of them regardless. Remain patient and only overtake them when safe to do so.

Often I come across them with big cans on those mid head or AirPods. My bell is still loud enough for most to hear and keep to their side.

Dogs walkers are more protective of their furballs.

Yeh me too in my right ear. I still choose not to wear AirPods when cycling though. Got to be aware especially on the road.

Too many people, cyclists and pedestrians, have their ears plugged in, usually with noise cancelling headphones, and just can't be as aware of what's going on around them.
They won't hear (or at least, process) a single ring of a bike bell, then don't hear a jogger approaching, even if they say "on your left".
I found myself falling the same habits a few years ago, and now use bone conduction headphones, so I can still hear what's going on around me.

The other thing I'll say on mixed foot/cycle paths is that, around here, the only time you really see cyclists on there is either end of the school day, the rest of the time it's basically a footpath, and yeah, no-one's looking out for bikes, or restricting themselves to the foot side.
I personally do cycle along there once in a while, and at different times to the school kids, so I expect any pedestrian going the same way as me to know that I'm there. Also, when I'm a pedestrian along there, I try to look over my shoulder before "stepping out randomly" which is never actually random, just something the cyclist might not have seen or cared about. But I'm sure I also fail to plenty.

The BTP said: "The more time our officers spend reviewing CCTV... the less time they have available for patrolling insults on twitter, investigating crimes which cause the most harm."

Green policies, to promote cycling, infrastructure to promote cycling, decriminalising theft to promote crime...

******* genius
