Bit of a strange build up for Pakistan with Shaharyar Khan resigning as head of the PCB, along with the issues over the captaincy with Mohammad Yousuf and Younis Khan. I'd say South Africa and New Zealand are licking their lips at this mess.

Younis Khan has now been reinstated as Pakistan skipper according to cricinfo, looks like Shaharyar Khan resigning cleared the way for all this. This buildup can't be helping Pakistan whatsoever.

glad to hear that might give us a bit more of a chance, not that we are going to win cos we currently suck ass at ODI's :(

i reckon SA will win it, their bowling isnt great but they have a knack for smashing massive totals, between them and Aus in the final

well they are in the other side of the draw from England so the chances of England even making it to the knock out stages are pretty slim given the opposition.

Reasonably easy for Sri Lanka yesterday against Bangladesh, Thuranga's century was the big difference between the teams, plenty of partnerships for Sri Lanka, they might have an outside chance of going a long way in this tournament.

Not so for Zimbabwe currently struggling big time against the Windies, already 58-7 after only 19 overs, Zimbabwe though have been the architect of their own downfall, poor running between the wickets and plenty of aimless shots. Cake walk for Lara and his team at the moment.

ok i thought for all the cricket fans out there i would try get this thread going again with some results.

3 out of the 6 qualifying games have been completed with Sri Lanka winning two and Thuranga picking up two quality centuries. Though saying this they were against Zimbabwe and Bangladesh so not to much can be read into that. West Indis had a big win against Zimbabwe and will no doubt come back and wipe the flour with the bangladeshis tonight. so both Sri Lanka and the West Indies will play on sat night to see who goes into which pool.

the trophy is just ramping up people :)

first decent clash coming up between West Indies and Sri Lanka as well, unlike the mistmatches we've seen so far.

cricket season yay.

this should be a good comp. I don't think the black caps can win it but who knows in a comp like this.

anyway a great start to the cricket season for the blackcaps with sri lanka and the world series followed by the chapell hadlee series and then finally the world cup.

Sri Lanka are certainly looking the business so far in this tournament. Easily accounting for the Windies yesterday by 9 wickets and getting into the comparatively easier group. They're more than capable of matching any team in this tournament.

Not so England by the looks of it, currently struggling against India, at 27-4 after 12 overs, cracking run rate!!!

Indians at home will be tough, but then that crazy fanatical crowd may expect too much of them.

Looking forward to NZ v SA tomorrow, although coverage starts at 9.30pm, so will probably only see first innings...

Tough break alright, at least for us it's a good time though, with them all being day nighters there's no 4am starts like there were for the India England ODI series.

Might be a bit early to call and maybe the Sri Lankan's form in the prelims might be misleading but you'd think it'd be a big uphill struggle for the loser of tomorow's game to qualify

damn bond is out for the first game.

i dont know exactly whats wrong but it was stiffness in his back. which isnt good

well the pitch the black caps are playing on is the one right next to the one where the windies and sri lanka played which was low scoring. also losing bond on the eve of the match won't help but a slower pitch might play into the blackcaps hands. I will defintely watch all the way through hopefully it will be worth it

this from tvnz
The day-night match is to be played on a wicket next to the low-playing one on which West Indies were skittled out for 80 by Sri Lanka on Saturday.

"The pitch that we saw yesterday brings the Styris, Astles, the spinners into play. We have some resources to rely on and we think we can explore those in these conditions."

w00t, so excited :D I'm really gutted about Bond though, was so looking forward to him tearing up tonight!!!!!!!!!!
