England 2021/22

I thought this page would be alive ford comments
As did i. I really think Eddie Jones has killed off a lot hype about England these last couple of years. With his terribly boring playing style or his stupid selections with out of form or out of position players.

It's almost like before he selects a squad, he deliberately picks one bizarre player in the wrong position, or a wrong bench slot or something just to be different like he's some strategic genius because he did a 5:2 bench split (that he doesn't even use).

The only motivation is that Farrell is injured (thank goodness) so we don't have to listen to his northern moaning at the ref all game.

IMO Ford isn't going to start and really we are more likely to see Furbank on the bench due to cover.
Probably right but I really hope not. No disrespect to Furbank but he's only an occasional 10 and it's such a pivotal position.

A 5:3 bench would allow specialist half back subs and there'd be plenty of outside options with Slade, Malins and Marchant involved. We don't need 6:2 and it's not like we've got a bomb squad waiting to come on.

More EJ wisdom - He's releasing Tom Curry from the training squad this weekend to play for Sale because he says he's not played enough (despite playing 8 games since the mandatory EPS stand down) yet was going to start Farrell after not playing for months lol

Not that I'm complaining, though

wut....

Significantly, Sanderson suggested that Curry, a player considered indispensable to Jones, could play in Sale's Premiership home clash against leaders Leicester on Sunday – just six days before England's Six Nations opener at Murrayfield. Sanderson said: "Tom enjoyed himself today but he's got a bit more of a shift to put in next week. There is a chance he might be staying back to get some more game time. That's between him and Eddie"

I was away this weekend, but honestly whilst Farrell injured is good thing I don't see Ford starting and certainly see him as bench at best and only if something needs to be shaken up. Its nothing to be particularly writing about the only people it really effects are Leicester fans.

With Furbank, Malins and Slade in the squad who can cover 10...would it not have been more useful to bring up say Dan Kelly or another young 12?

I think you want a spare dedicated 10 in the squad regardless of what your matchday team looks like, if Smith breaks a leg in the first match you want someone who's been involved at training not called up at the last moment.

It's that kind of inconsistency and one rule for one that drives people nuts.

On first scan reading of this, all I saw was Curry and 8 in the same sentence……

Just out of curiousity, if everyone was fit and available who would make your starting XV I'd go

Marler
LCD
Sincklair
Itoje
Launchbury
J Williis
Curry
Dombrandt
Quirke
Smith
Manu
Slade
Watson
Radwan
Steward

J Willis, looks to be to have all the physical attributes (apart from getting injured) of a great 6 . He carries well too

So we have two likely outcomes...

10 Smith
12 Atkinson
13 Slade

10 Smith
12 Slade
13 Marchant

I know which id prefer and i know which i think itll be

If everyone was fit and available I'd go:

1. Marler
2. George (just)
3. Collier (best scrummager)
4. Kruis
5. Launchbury
6. Itoje. Lawes has shown the big guy at 6 can work and I've always thought Itoje is far better equipped for that role. Gives Itoje more freedom to cause havoc and enables the row to be powered up
7. Curry - with Underhill and Willis pushing hard
8. Dombrandt although I think Barbeary will get the shirt pretty quickly
9. Youngs - the young pretenders haven't done enough yet, but should get good time off the bench
10. Smith
11. Dunno. If everyone was on form, May but right now I'd probably go for Malins. Radwan needs to make his case.
12. Manu
13. Slade
14. Watson
15. Steward

Thats a v strong set piece team but in the forwards who are the carriers will get go forward in open play? Is collier good in the open? Dombrandt is a good carrier but not into brick walls.

Id have same backline you have, maybe rather quirke in at the deep end but like you say not experience enough yet, malins wing spot.

Id go

Marler
LCD
Sinks(dont really know enough about Collier thats my reasoning)
Itoje
Kruis
JWillis(was great before injury, breakdown, carrying and scored his fair share of tries)
Curry
Dombrandt

George
Genge
Collier(again dont know who are the top THP options atm really)
Launch
Barbeary

Not available , or else a definite
OK … but your post literally said, 'if everyone was fit and available' :D

1. Marler
2. George
3. Sinckler
4. Itoje
5. Kruis
6. Willis
7. Curry
8. Dombrandt
9. Youngs*
10. Smith

12. Slade
13. Marchant
14. Watson
15. Steward

*only because I'm not bold enough to pick Quirke just yet

Hardest decision for me is leaving Lawes out. I know he's not universally popular (particular when at 6), but I do regard him as a key player for us.
