Preliminary squad announcement imminent. 5 week mandatory break before players are allowed to participate, so that will rule any Gloucester/Saints/Exeter/Sarries players out for this squad at least.

Rumours that Marler has decided to come out of retirement to try and break into the squad - I hope this is true. But as he and Dombrandt both played for the baa-baas, they won't be eligible to participate until July.

Apparently also Robshaw and Danny Care are both set to miss out. Would be particularly surprised with the latter given that he is one of England's most experienced scrum-halves and has arguably had one of his best seasons ever this year.

Who would you like to see?

The extended training squads are usually 40+; Ireland have named 44, Wales 42. England named 45 last time.

Care and Wigglesworth are apparently not in contention; that's placing a lot on the shoulders of Youngs, especially as he's just had surgery on one of those shoulders! Willi Heinz has been mentioned; seems odd to call up an uncapped 32-yr old, but I hear he's done well this year. Shame it took all this to get Robson and Spencer into serious consideration.

I'm not too surprised Robshaw didn't make the cut; there's suddenly a lot of good options for the flankers. Good on Dombrandt, there, but it would be nice to see Ben Curry get a look in too.

EDIT: Wait, isn't Robson injured as well? He had a serious blood clotting problem.

So with this 5 week break, who does that rule out?
1. Vunipola, Marler, Moon, Hepburn, Harrison, Obano
2. George, LCD, Dunn, Taylor
3. Williams, Painter, Hill
4/5. Itoje, Kruis, Isiekwe, Stooke, Beaumont, Spencer
6. Dombrandt, Ellis
7. Curry
8. Vunipola, Simmonds, Harrison
9. Spencer, Wigglesworth, Mitchell, White
10. Farrell, Smith, Sheedy
12. Devoto, Williams
13. Lozowski, Slade, Marchant
11/14. Nowell, Bassett, O'Conor, Loader
15. Goode, Hanmersley

Not sure if I've missed anyone that's realistically in contention.

Only one i can think is Atkinson as he played for the baabaas.

So no Hughes, Robshaw, Care, Hartley... Given that Smith and Dombrandt played in the BaaBaas game, I'm assuming Ben Curry and Alex Mitchell would be on this list if we were going to see them. Guess they miss out too.

So will chodes be added to this squad once they get their allocated rest or is this just a "possibles" type training squad and there'll be a completely different one?

THP - VRR, Genge
HK - Dunn, Singleton
LHP - Sinks, Cole, Schonet?(csnt remember TH or LH)
LK - Ewels, Launch
BSF - Ludlum, Shields
OSF - Underhill, Curry
No. 8 - Wilson, Dombrandt

SH - Youngs, Robson
FH - Ford, Smith
IC - Tuilagi, Teo
OC - JJ
Wings - Watson, May, Big Joe, Ashton
FB - Brown, Daly. McConnochie

So who will be replaced by who when others are free to train.

The former, though there's a few names in there to make up the numbers/realistically aren't in contention

Marcus smith is there to make up numbers atm but how.close is he to breaking through to the first team and getting a real cap post world cup, doubt he will play this world cup without a few injuries.

Not quite sure what it says when so many of our first choice backs weren't playing in the GP knock out games.

Would love to see Dombrandt tear up trees in training. Pleased to see Brown involved.

With Hartley now seemingly out of the picture I guess Fazlet will captain. But really don't want him to be doing that from 10. Just too much pressure.
