New Zealand have Maoris, so they have an instant advantage in size.

Except us poor ******** who have to grow up tackling Maoris, which isn't fun. Damn natural talent.

Heck yeah lol I was a bloody 70kg kid at school playing against kids who were easily 120+kgs! (South Auckland P.I and moari boys!!)

...Yeah, playing for under 19's is scary when you start and are certain the other teams players are all between the ages of 25-35 and weigh 120+. And I am propping against them when the total scrum weight diffrence is like 750kg against 950kg.

I think the Aussies earn the most respect when you consider that they are always a world class team in spite of the fact that Union is a minor sport down there.
...Ok, it is not a minor sport "down their". I think it is either 3rd or 4th. Considering thier population is 21 million and NZ's is 4 million it dosn't make much of an excuse. Rugby League we have 22,000 registed players where as Australia has 172,000, and despite that we won the Rugby League World Cup, does that make NZ a better League nation then Australia? In Australia there are 165,000 registed Rugby Union players, not that short of League. In NZ there are a registed 141,000 registed players, less then in Australia, and yet we usially win, so how can Australia get more respect as a rugby nation then NZ?

Australia Number Of Registered Players: 82818
New Zealand Number of Registered Players: 139968

I wouldn't say union is a major sport down here, like RL it is only big in QLD and NSW, or even just Brisbane/Gold Coast and Sydney. League is dominated in the bush in QLD and NSW, AFL is played in the other half of the country.

Where did you get your RL figures from

Hmm should be a good game if it's dry. Will be helter skelter if it rains. Whats the weather forecast like for Saturday evening?
Wallabies played well against France, however the French team didn't seem to have played with the same intensity as they did against the All Blacks. I'm not sure if it was the French players not playing well or the Wallabies just shutting them down completely. The Wallabies look settled though.

With the return of McCaw, So'oialo, Sivivatu, Conrad Smith and Andrew Hore I believe the All Blacks will be much better. That is almost a third of their starting line up and a lot of experience as well. Conrad Smith's contribution in the 2nd test against France was evident, he is a valuable player.

NZ will try to dominate up front. They will keep things tight. I think Stephen Donald will target the chanel between Giteau and Barnes. He is good runner of the ball with deceptive pace. To beat this Wallabies side they would just have to bash through them as they did in the Auckland test last year as thats where their main weakness lies I believe. New Zealand have a good team. But their returning players lack test match practice.

Do you play with your pocket calculator too? Who cares if it's a minor or major sport. Ok Nicks figures may or may not have been wrong, but at the end of the day it's a sport and you guys inarguably have many more people who could play it if they wanted due to population. Thats not really the point though, it's hardly an excuse for losing (how many players are registered) unless it's like some country that has 10% as many, because you have a bigger population who CAN play it. It's not our fault they choose not to.

So by that logic China should be the greatest at all sports in the world? A bit simplistic looking at population without bringing the context of our highly competitive sporting environment into play. Kids grow up wanting to play Aussie rules or Mungo ball in the large part, Rugby Union is the 4th winter sport by a LONG way....

Its the 4th sport over here too and we're ranked 4 and have a population similar to New Zealand! What matters is how the sport is structured in the country.

And our system of about 30 Secondary schools being hardcore rugby schools...

The best get into the provicial acedemies,

The best of those end up in the provincial sides and then...

They end up in the international squad.

England has 500000 registered players and because the RFA seems permanantly confused and insist on picking the same players that one a world cup 6 years ago and a headcoach based on the fact that he likes picking players that were there 6 years ago they're going through a bit of a shitty spot despite having plenty of talent.

The number of registered players can be significantly dropped however when you consider the fact that I, a retired and unfit winger, am still on that list despite not playing a proper competitive game for over 2 years. And even then we're not talking for a premiership teams academy or reserves, was for a local amateur clubs 3rd XV. And than that's because my 5-year registration form had a tick box saying something like "if selected I agree to attend national call-ups".

I'll bet there are many more "registered players" who've not even held a ball for years.

Yeah, but same can probably be said for everywhere.

Anyway, all that matters is that Teh Mite is getting a new car.

Hmmm, does that include Jr levels?
I am ashamed i was in a hurry and went to the all reliable Wikipedia...(thanks for making me look like an ass Wiki :()

As I was saying, there is no doubt that Australia is a good rugby nation, but I don't think Australia deserve more respect then NZ in Rugby.

Okay to end this conversation once and for all.

New Zealand face the difficulties of a smaller potential player base while Australia faces the difficulties of a smaller interest in the game, hence limiting the player base to the extent that they equal the amount of respect that New Zealand deserves, there we are, equals, now lets get drunk!

So no call up yet? Not even for the Saxons? Pah typical England, not exploring potential talent while sticking to old guns.

Yeah, thats more like it BLR, too right. Your earlier post was reading me all wrong suggesting that I thought population = ability.
