SAMOA WON THE WELLINGTON LEG OF THE SEVENS SERIES...

CONGRATS BOYZ!!!...RAW TALENT PROVAILS AGAINST A SEEMINGLY UNSTOPPABLE FIJIAN TEAM WHO CRUSHED ALL CHALLENGERS BY 30 POINT MARGINS AND OVER..INCLUDING NEW ZEALAND...DEFENSE PROVED VITAL AND THE PACE WAS BROUGHT DOWN TO SAMOA'S LEVEL WHERE THEY DEFENDED WITH BRUTE FORCE AND ATTACKED WITH THAT SAME INTENT...

SAMOA 17 - FIJI 14

CONGRATS BOTH TEAMS..FIJI PROVIDING A FANTASTIC CHALLENGE DURING THE PROBLEMS THAT MAY EFFECT THEIR FAMILIES BACK HOME IN FIJI(POLITCIAL BULLSHIT)...GOOD LUCK ALL TEAMS IN THE NEXT TOURNAMENT IN AUSTRALIA

Yup, congrats to both teams for an outstanding final- so that leaves NZ and SA heading the current table, with Fiji blowing hot on their heels.

Next week`s tourney in the USA is looking like yet another cracker- it`s been quite open this year, especially now with the Manu also joining the party of tourney winners.

Congratulations to the Samoans. :bravo:

Although I was dejected after the final, I was also happy that another team had won - apart from the obvious ones (Fiji, NZ, Boks & Eng).

But a big plus for the Samoans was the option of only using local based players.

Samoan coach ***imaea Tafua revealed his team had been the first litmus test for a bold decision by Samoan rugby to select only Samoa-based talent in the sevens team.

"We still need the help from our boys here in New Zealand and they have done a great job over the years," Tafua said.

"But at the moment we are trying to promote our local players.

"It's good for all rugby in Samoa."[/b]

The Samoans surprisingly did not play like Samoans  They were ruthless and methodical and played to win. They played South Africa and incredibly did what was neccesary at certain times to get them through. Who the hell passes the ball in the tackle behind their own ball line to someone who is already marked and hopes for them to drive back in that tackle over into the field of play? That was crazy but the Samoans knew that if they played it safe and dotted the ball down after carrying it back they would be incapable of holding South Africa out. Then they played ruck after ruck of close quarter stuff for the final minute to deny the South Africans the ball....they never once tried to outrun them.

They took the same methodical approach when they played Fiji....slowing the pace of the game down with their organised defence and frustrating the Fijians with covering them all over the place. The Samoan fullback/sweeper Lui...or whatever his name was....was a real genius by shadowing any break the Fijians made rather than going straight in for the tackle.....until the rest of the Samoan cover defence arrived.

When on attack Samoa did not throw caution to the win but played a possession game with an emphasis on engaging and holding possession in the rucks....almost like the methodical 15 man game. Then after the defence were a bit groggy after making "tackles" as opposed to "marking people" someone in the Samoan team would break a tackle and they would sweep upfield.

The drop goal in the final showed that the Samoan team were playing more than just traditional running sevens. It showed they were willing to take sevens a bit further than being just a running game.

Really Samoa were simply ruthless. They played like the 2003 RWC England 15 a side team. Not the flashiest or the showiest but definitely the more calculated of the bunch.

Fiji were awesome throughout the tournament....but they needed to know that looking the best is different to playing to get the result.

Right on the dot my Gay brother.

We underestimated the Samoans and we tried to play it fast but didnt worked. Well we'll meet again in San Diego.

GO FIJI GO!!! :bana:

Lol!

Well it is game over for Samoa at the next tournament. Fiji would have learnt the lesson and will play winnning rugby when the score is close...and crazy flair stuff when they know they have the edge. Actually a lot of teams may have learnt a valuable lesson from the style Samoa played. Samoa has shown their hand and now everyone will catch up...especially considering the talent in some of the other teams.

Was a bloody awesome weekend wasn't it. Was funny how the stupid boobs who control the lights turned them off during the game though.

dont know...BUT PLEASE SOME ONE GET WILLIAM RYDER A 15'S CONTRACT AND SEE IF HE CAN MIX IT UP THERE....IM SURE FIJI NEED A NUMBER 10!!!...

hes amazing...footwork is too brilliant to be true at times!!!..hes only like what?...20..21??...with the way 7s is growing he will be an undisputed owner of that game just as rush and serevi were..i just hope he can play 15s..he would be awesome to see on the world stage
