[2017 RBS Six Nations] Round 1: Scotland vs. Ireland (04/02/2017)

Time to look for the BP.

You found it. Congrats!

:p

Seriously, not great for the tournament but well done Scotland. First time they have closed out a game against a better side that I can remember in a long, long time. I was completely wrong about replacing Vern Cotter, it's complete madness.

And finally, fair to say the sport hasn't been ruined by the high tackle rules.

Gratz Scotland.

Ireland were poor in the first half, slightly better in second.

So good for being the favourites.

Great start to the six nations this year. Who said tries couldn't be scored in the cold of February? 6 tries in the first match. Hopefully England v France follows the example set.

Scotland have got this from no where? Playing with vigour and bravery. Great display if they win this. Been out scored 17-3 so far.

They've always played with vigour and bravery at Murrayfield. Having a back line helps a lot. If they could upgrade half the pack they'd be in business.

That said... they're a wee bit fortunate that Ireland have been so dumb. Ireland managed 25 minutes of good play and shredded them in that period despite coughing up a fair few gilt edged chances. I don't think I've ever seen an Ireland team so reluctant to kick.

Great result for the Scots though :)

Scotland are playing like they did in Telfer/Geech days. Some great tactics on display there. If France win today it will blow everything wide open

Will be few big questions asked of Ireland now. I thought Earls going off hurt us. More so as Bowe was off form all season and it showed today. Our balance at start of game was wrong. Like once our backrow smartened up they all really made impact. I thought Henshaw was superb. Our lineout has gone back massively and we need to find the balance. Toner is massive but his height is irrelevant if he's only option. He is a marked man if he's the only jumper

It does seem weird that everytime Jackson put in a grubber they got a good result out of it, so they done that what 3 times?
Considering the kicking ability of the half backs they didn't use their brains at all. Weir was on the pitch 5 minutes they should've copied him !

Congrats Bruce.

But I'd say it's opposite. It's great for tournament. They were worthy winners

Couple of years if glasgow keep on churning the talent out we could actually start properly competing. Some really encouraging stuff there, Watson and maitland especially impressive.

Yeh this might be worse for England.

Will have to face a confident Scotland and an Ireland team with nothing to lose.

Yeah agree with this. A lot of bad decisions, including several by Murray, most surprisingly.

I don't think it can be complacency - they wouldn't be arrogant enough to think they didn't need to turn up to win. I just think they're a bit of a good day/bad day team and today was a bad one.

Scotland deserved winners. Great to see 6 tries scored in a game.

Ireland's attack needs to be sharpened up. Very easy to defend.

Big question and I don't question Farrell alone on this. But you look at Munster and Leinster defensively over past few months then look at today. It's a issue that is interesting. Equally lineout is issue. It was one of our worst lineout performances statistically since 95
