Antisocial, societal issues thread

This also posted in health is another example. She used Her own daughter to push her conspiracy theories and then blame the NHS when she died. Her sons have completely disowned her.
I'm a million miles away from knowing what I'm talking about, but I'd hope she would be liable for coercive control or something.

I'm firmly of the belief that society and general decency has gone down the toilet since lockdown and I don't think it's a mere coincidence. There should be some serious studies looking at it there is a causal effect between what we are seeing and the circumstances at the time.

Oooffff...careful these words might have come straight from Farages mouth, the right wing make this exact argument!

I think a lot of people can acknowledge an area of agreement even with someone they vehemently disagree with, and still look at the bigger picture. For example, I and many in here, would agree with Fararge on PR but when that's weighed against all of his other views about immigration and what not it doesn't make much difference. It's kind of like acknowledging someone said "march peacefully" once in a hour long speech filled with a load of old ********.

Wait, people can hold two thoughts in their head at once?

So you are all for order, traditional etiquette, and hierarchy?

It's older than lockdown, though that accelerated it.
Personally, I think it's social media.
You get to broadcast your weirdest thoughts, and the algorithm explitly shows you people agreeing with you, and people you can feel righteous indignation against.
Which isn't social media per second, but is certainly how they all evolved.

Conspiracy theorists have always been with us, but they get an outsized voice.
Self-centredness and superiority complexes (and Dunning-Krugers) have always been with us, but the algorithms turn it all up to 11.

That leads to the likes of the tea party => MAGA, and the UKIP=>Reform, excusing and legitimising our worst impulses.
And the same on the left from "bleeding heart" => "politically correct" => "cancel culture"
This also comes down to a lack of accountability from top to bottom. Social media, as you said, has become the platform to segregate our society into groups with their grievances.

Lack of care and consideration for others is the standard that's sadly been eroded.

I mean your 100% bang on with that first part, right v left, man v woman, white v black, straight v lgbtq...

Why be held to account when the people can just be consumed by an algorithm and direct their fury at each other?

A lot of places on the internet has lost, or is losing the ability to respectfully disagree with someone.
Disagreements have to be because the other person is an idiot, not that they just have a different subjective opinion, or have honestly reached a different conclusion.
Which feeds into everyone's sense of entitlement (I'll just nudge my car into this too-small space - I've indicated after all)
Which leads into a lack of empathy for others (If you're going to cross the road there, it's your own fault if you get hit)
Which ends in the dehumanising of others (Waves vaguely at the USA)

And there's always someone jabbing from the sidelines trying to provoke more disagreements for their own entertainment

Echo chambers, lack of accountability, pile on's, self-entitlement, gas lighting, blame game.

All the joys of the Internet on both sides left and right.

Away from the Internet I still find most people are decent, kind, and civil. All most people want is a nice and quiet life for themselves, there family and others.

At the risk of sounding like an old camudgeon...

Wtf is wrong with community in 2025?

Im currently walking the dog and litter picking in the local park, and it seems to be turning into a daily battle.

I pick maybe 40 bits a day, and every morning there'sore than the day before. The council are uninterested despite my constant complaints, the cut the grass once a year, dont tend to the bushes, or litter pick.

What annoys me is the bins are always empty, and there 6 in a park of about 60m by 60m, plenty. There's a play park and football posts, littered with needles and trash.

Im not a preacher, I dont rag on about it locally, and I dont need anyone to have to make a massive effort, just dont make an effort to wreck the place, is that too much to ask?!?!?!

As I wrote this a house backing onto the park wreaks of weed, its 6am you useless ****!!!!!

Sorry for the rant!
