[2014 EOYT] Wales vs South Africa

Thought Biggsr was excellent, Toby and Liam Williams were very good indeed. The forwards put in immense work and the back row everywhere. Was the Saints winger playing?

Davies and Roberts were truly awful going forward and more intent on personal achievement than the needs of the team which cost at least two tries possibly three.

Lacey added to his reputation as one of the most incompetent referees!!!!

Good result after the run but the Boks never really turned up! Hope JdV is ok.....

Far, far from a perfect performance, but don't think for a second that I care. Finally. Both a victory against a SH superpower, and people see how good Dan Biggar really is. Still over the moon.

Congrats to Wales, they were the better team today. But boy, the Boks made things harder for themselves out there. HM needs to put his thinking hat back on again, cause that was a pathetic performance today. Once again, the Boks did not utilize their backs effectively, breakdown and our scrum was found wanting. Games like that would have required specialist ground-hog like Brussouw.

I'm frustrated to say the least

Credit to Wales though for making it count

Very honest and very humble, a credit to your country.

Biggar is superb. Warburton too, I have been harsh on him before, but stellar performances from him all month. Missed the last 15 but seems both sides tried their best to give it away? Pleased with the result but there are still problems that need fixing. I won't get all contrarian and pretend to be disappointed, but there is a world of change needed over the next 10 months.

aaaaaaaaaaahhhh faaakkk, just watched JdV's injury, I can't watch that stuff, anything with limbs looking way awkward and out of place, just stabs at my soul somehow..why is the human body so fragile ?!! so sorry when that kind of shhit happens, and can only console myself knowing it's always by surprise and the element of surprise+shock makes it at least that much easier to go through. Speedy recovery for Monsieur de Villiers.

And congrats again, Wales :) happy for you guys, you deserved one of those so badly, any neutral knows this.

Yep, nasty one. Hope he recovers. We don't need any more rugby losses. Makes me think of Dave Wallace getting injured just before the last world cup but this is a bigger loss.
It's bad for the game.

Last time he buggered that knee up he was out for around 2 years. And scans have revealed the damage is pretty extensive. Not good.

Watching some highlights. How Gethin didn't get a concussion I'll never know. 2 or 3 times he tackled and took a hefty impact to the head. The tackling by both sides all game was feroious, some huge hits were going in.

So pleased for the team. The last 2 weeks they have really stepped the game up and deserved to get the win yesterday.

Boks underestimate northern hemisphere teams. Just as the Boks have closed the gap on the all blacks . Ireland , England and Wales have significantly reduces the gap on the Southern Hemisphere teams.Such that I cannot confidently make the all blacks the overwhelming favourite to win the World Cup. On any given day New Zealand , Australia South Africa England Ireland Wales can beat each other.

Yep a real pity, a sickening injury. First class player, captain and gentleman. I think it will take a long time until he gets back playing and likely he will not make the world cup fully fit in any case.

OK, I have a few comments to make:

Dan Biggar. Ban Digger was just simply sexually aroused the other day. He was grabbin balls like a (excuse the thickness, need to let it out) - catchin balls like a...pornstar... You even saw how Etzebeth was jealous of him and pushed him in the air there on that penalty coz he knew in his heart Biggar looked too sexy grabbin those balls. This may be a bit illuminated, but for me Dan Biggar's performance was the greatest of any blindside flanker, of all time (11/11 tackles).

Halfpenny tackling Etzebeth, shows you substance before flash is important. You don't need your FB to be fancy and moonwalk - that was a try-saving tackle quite probably. And what a boot, best in the world isn't he. What are those, like, Nike ? Do they do Air Nike for Rugby..?
Alun-Luss Jones has turned into Alun-Wyn Jones once again, and his game was as mighty as his beard, great commitment, but isn't that just a waste of time mentioning his commitment as it's a given with this man.

Sam went to Warburton alright. He was pure sex, all day. Tackling, turning over on the ground, all with a raging erection, running, hitting the rucks, still hard as a rock.
I liked Gethin Jenkins again. Underrated in the scrum (although not all game long), and very committed.

Liam Williams, I like that kid. He looks quite ridiculous with his Movember stache on, and needs to spend a bit more time actually eating burgers than playing in the slides at McDonald's…but he caught my eye against Toulon and he was MOTM against Fiji and I liked him again this time, except when he turned into a troll by calling mark and then still taking the run, that was mischievous and I hope the ref and Gatland both called his parents about that. Finally, he's got a very interesting profile picture on espnscrum.com. Well done, that website.

Really liking that Rhys Webb too. Liked him all November long.

Liked the big Welsh scrum, but that TH is scrummaging at an angle, destabilises the opposing LH and then applies pressure sideways.
Sorry but Jonathan Davies and Lydiate are just on the field because they're huge bodies, Davies' best play was a co-turnover at the breakdown..

Willie Le Louse was exactly himself. Someone who deserves a best player nom like I deserve a funniest poster nom. Wait, that's confusing, I'm saying he wasn't very good. There..
He's been like a fkng cartoon character lately, the kind of annoying little guy on the show who botches everything and then goes "woops, I'm all thumbs today, uh hee hee !!…" - South Africa you're absolute fkng MANIACS for letting Kockott and Spedding go, we weren't that insane. We're pretty insane, but not that insane. Coz that's - *INSANE*.

Now it must be said Wales did look like they just didn't want to win again at the end, squandered a good 3 or 4 big chances for a score.

This game was a great example of how important your fundamentals are: you don't *need* attacking flair, you need to be fundamentally sound in the main sectors and you'll collect penalties (setpiece, breakdown, defense..). If you collect enough, like Wales did with the forwards and then HP's boot, and then play great committed defense, S.A. needed to score a try being 6-12 down on the score, and a pen or drop wasn't enough, and the more time passed, the more a try became the only, pressing, stressful solution. Huge pressure, and a 6-point margin (as opposed to just 3) made all the difference.

I reiterate my brilliant pun (for who wouldn't be proud of this masterpiece): Cymrutulations.
Bravo, Mr. Pays de Galles.

Ewis, you never fail to make the game sound like it was anything less than an 80 minute orgy

A) I'm very hurt by your comment, like, in my feelings B )...the word "orgy" isn't censored here ?!...and C) Oh like that wasn't clearly a fkng 15 on 15 man gangbang !!!! The guys felt more crotch in 80min than psychi...err, than Lady Gaga and Miley Cyrus combined !!......okay, wait wait wait...that's not even acceptable exaggeration.. * felt more crotch than Lady Gaga !!..

Well done to Wales. It was very painful to watch. especially the schoolboy errors we were making.

i wonder if this is Heyneke Meyer last game,

Why?? We beat the All Blacks but lose against Wales and Ireland, and all of a sudden people are saying HM should be fired. You can't win 'em all.

I don't want to be unnecessarily negative, but that's potentially career ending.
Absolute horror-show.

Absolutely terrible! And it's a bit ironic, as Thursday just before this test, HM said that only JDV spot is safe for the World Cup. Now it seems that he might not even be available to play. This might sound a bit harsh on JDV, but it might just be a blessing in disguise. I hope HM can convince a guy like Frans Steyn or Jaque Fourie to reconsider playing again for the boks.

As for the game.

It seemed that we went back to our more defensive style of play for this tour. I thought Lambie had a rather poor game, he kicked everything away. And our decision making was especially terrible. Why would we kick for the lineout at 39 minutes from the 45m line, yet we kick at goal from the halfway line???

The time where JDV got injured, and we got yet again another bull**** call against us and a yellow card, was the turn of the tide. Just before JDV injury, we really started to make headway towards Wales' goal line.

I though the MOTM was immense on taking on the biggar guys! and how he got up everytime just showed his commitment.

But I think praise must go to Alun-Wyn Jones. He disrupted us entirely, wasn't afraid to cause ****les off the ball, and had a knack of slowing down the ball at the rucks, which the ref didn't penalise him for. Whenever we had an attacking line-out he targeted Victor Matfield, and stopped us from getting our maul going.

Well done Wales, at least now we know there is a trend. Every 15 years we'll lose in Cardiff... Luckily we play a few games next year at that venue...

Jean's injury:

That sounds dreadful. Missed the injury during the match, and I have no desire to look for it. One of the most loved blokes in rugby today, seems like such a great person on and off field. Would love to see him make RWC15.

Maybe this will force Meyer to reach out to Frans Steyn? Saw he wants Frans and Jaque to return... I question Frans desire to actually play in SA. He is getting good money in Japan, and his performances in Durban were hit and miss (granted, they made him play 10 due to Pat and Fred's respectice injuries and Swiel's... performances).

that's a lot of injuries around the same place.... he could be out just before the world cup.

Unfortunately if nothing else this tour has highlighted that SA are far from the favourites in this up and coming World Cup, we have too many areas of concern.
- Willie le Roux is our only real option at FB and while he can be great when playing well, he also is inconsistent enough to cost us games.
- Our Wings are either good defensively and good under the high balls, or have flair in attack but not both.
- Our centres are fine, or rather were fine until this JDV injury (looks like he's out for 8 months minimum which will make it hard for him to play in 10 months time).
- There is promise at fly-half but the lads are so young they really need 2 or 3 years to develop not 10 months.
- Scrumhalf is a bit of a dog show unless Fourie du Preez comes in to save the day.

Other than that it's about our forward pack finding form and not getting injuries in key areas.
With our first choice back row, Fourie du Preez, and an in form 10 and 15 we have a chance. I'll remain optimistic but perhaps 2019 is a more realistic aim.

Jean's injury:

Owww. I missed that part and like Draggs, Im not going looking for a replay. Its making my knee hurts just thinking about it. Shame, lets hope we see him in the WC (thats the world cup, not the john)

God, I was so sure the Boks would win the World Cup earlier during the year, and now they're not even making it out of the pools.
