[RWC2019][Pool D] Round 2 - Fiji vs. Uruguay (25/09/2019)

Race for the 3rd place/automatic qualification to next world cup in Group D becomes more exciting.

Wow. This will destroy my superbru prediction but quite happy about it.

Don't worry about it. 97% of Superbru didn't call it (more importantly 100% of TRF superbru) so just about everyone are in the same boat . At least the two of us got a little extra with calling Samoa by 25.

Well done Uruguay! Fiji had their chances though. Particularly at conversions..

So just finished it on +1, that's what the World Cup is all about! Giving the opportunity to nations who rarely get a chance to tussle with the big boys.

As many have said, the Uruguayan tackling was perfection but what about their fitness and peak performance level... just outstanding.

Feel for Fiji a little bit, I've felt that pain... against you guys in 2007, you'll be back though.

'Almost' as much of a shock as Japan beating SA in Brighton in 2015... just amazing!

Edit. @Umaga's Witness, yeah just saw that post-match interview, powerful stuff... bravo! Can not wait for Uruguay vs Georgia (as well as Georgia vs Fiji), what a group!

Not to take anything away from Uruguay but how much did the 5 day turnaround affect Fiji? Did they change up their team from the one that played the Wallabies?

still all credit to Uruguay, what a result for them regardless.

Fiji made 12 changes. One was forced by Yato being out but yeah.

If you're gonna talk about what Fiji could have done you have to start with the kicking though. They missed 13 points!

How much did Russias 5 day turn around affect them vs Samoa?
How much will England's 5 day turn around affect them vs USA?
How much will Italy's 4 day turn around affect them vs Canada?

Aren't Ireland and Japan the only teams without a 4 or 5 day turnaround?

It was Fiji's plan to rotate, they didn't have to as much as they did.

all good questions.

...and this is why you set the Sky box to record every match in the World Cup, not just the big ones!

Which of course I forgot to do.

Can you download full matches from ITV or Sky after the event does anyone know?

I think you can in ITV if you pay for the premium service. £3.99 a month. Might be worth it for 2 months RWC is on or just do it for the pool stages as the knock out games will be on at the weekend and on catchup.

Fair play to Uruguay they were excellent. Fronted up physically in defence as well as technically being very good in the tackle, ball retention was good and they took their chances. As for Fiji, they showed the blueprint of how not to play against a team ranked lower than you. Just threw the ball wide and hoped for the best, not really any structure in attack at all. Coupled with loads of handling errors and those missed kicks Fiji were deserved losers.

Italy's side in their opener didn't look full strength, so they should be able to cope better than if they had two tough games on a short turnaround.
