test level!!? Jesus AK...God bless again!! (lol)
its only coz of the thrashing the demo got on 'county'level

got used to facing the english attack in the demo

gough
harmy
flinty
andersen

as far as pace attack goes only Pakistan and maybe australia have better pace attack in the game

so facing that force of the poms during the demo helps my timing at the crease immensly

got too the point where for a 6 over match we'd regularly post 100+ tota

so i said to myself i'd be on test level without even facing a ball when the full game came out

i have since bettered my timing on test level and am increasing my totals little by little from say 120 at first to now posting 250 totals - its a great learning curve

EXCEPT SHAOIB AKTHAR

nobody in on the planet can pick his nippy ball - u either commit or u take the risk of beaten by pace - So when facing the PAK, anywhere between 100 to 150 is good in my books - SHAOIB WILL TAKE ATLEAST 5 WICKETS

Also when playing the classic matches - its a cruise - being on village or slog mode!
Some of the county classic matches are tough - like keeping Tendulkars wicket on a 250 run chase and posting a tonne with VIV RICHARDS were a good challenge

TEST level reminds me of the ultimate PES difficulty
With a good team u gotto stay on ur toes to close the match

With a medium team u gotto play with variety and tactics to finish them off
With a **** team ur in the for a great challenge - nearing impossiblity - SEEN THE WORLD XI AND CLASSIC XI - CHALLENGE THESE TEAMS WITH NORMAL TEAMS - GOTTO BEAT THEM WITH EVERYTEAM - OH THE LONGEVITY!!!!!

AND WORLD XI TOUR - Gotto play each regions best XI...ie Atlantic XI (LOL), ASIA XI, AFRICA XI etc etc

LONGEVITY

My mates and I and drooling over the 1st inevitable inaugural ****-up tourno

CUSTOM LEAGUES

Up to (i think) 8 human teams.........8 mates (3 of us own the game), so already we have the formula for a summer experience in our own living rooms in chilly winter, with the barbie smoking, slab cracked, and some shampers for the podium celebration to the overall WINNER!!
Each entrant chucks in $5 - so u have $40.00 in the kitty
$10.00 to player of the series - voted by way of stats
$10.00 to player with most wickets
$10.00 to player with most runs
$5.00 to player with most catches
$5.00 to player with best avg
So whomever is the human behind the player that achieves any of the above milestones - REWARDED!

We all play real cricket in the summer - so we also have scorebooks
Yes - stat tracking for the tourno!!!
We have our own World Series - Benson and Hedges is back the cricket front, and we dont need no packer or drop pitches to get it up and running!!!!

Get them from the Essential Updates section at Planetcricket.
Very nice work (times like these you sometimes wish you had the PC version........)

I totally forgot to mention that I took Australia (even though I lost - actually bowling them out is ironically why I lost) from 265/5 to 289 all out in that first test..........bowled Lehmann's off stump out of the ground for 97.

so sweet.......yes he got a send off.

You will be amazed at how pumped you get when you break a big partnership.

and how awesomely you can sometimes annihilate the tail.........

But you gotta get there.......

<

Back on it again tonight....noyl tonight I have no pubquizes or girlfirend dinners etc etc to frustrate me (lol! I don't really mean that, but ya know!?).....tonight I go six hours (2x3 hour sessions with a half hour break)...

I have to organise to only do this much, save I play longer and burn my eyes into the back of my skull.

- note: the cover drive lofted or along the ground - front foot or back - is something sadly missing from so many cricket games (I believe it was in ea's 2004 effort from memory)....it is well and truly alive in Blics...
(hehe..just don't expose that stump...oh,oh...slower ball!!! <<Death Rattle>>.......you outta here).

AK!!!

Is that "f*** off" I heard when I got out the other night....

It seemed to clearly be "f*** off!!" that Lee said to me....and warney for that matter....any ideas?

so funny, because it actually riles you up.

good posts also esoj, nzl fan and dude with patches...sensational.

I have ps2, but frankly I don't even notice. I have changed all the names etc...and have only played the one official ICC knockout (saved in 2 player semi with bro to play against Sri Lanka)....I just wowed by gameplay. Simple in many ways, but perfectly so.

yep it sure is

"f** off, your out, see u later, get the f**k moving, cant bat, cant bowl, cant play so just f**k off altoghether"!!!

pavillion's that way pussbag----------> points fingers

I love given it to Shaoib, Lee and Murali - their faces in the game make u love to hate em - like real life ironically

a simluated experience nonetheless

ah awesome stuff there and thats the way it should be as players do get send off when they get out or make a mistake. Does the batsmen say anything back? or when the batsmen smacks a few boundaries in a row in the over do they say anything to the bower?

they make getures and stuff

when u hit fours the bowler comes in and blabbers something - make of it what u will - in this case he is saying - "cant u hit another type of shot u one hit wonder"

then batter says something back, with a smerk on his face - "bowl somewhere else numbnuts"

if u swing and miss - the bowler comes in with a smile, points - "yeah good work" in sarscastic kinda way..........batter then has expression on his face of "yeah whatever, walk back to ya mark fool"

misshit a shot - bowler animates the kinda of shot u should have played or tries to teach u a few points in batting

these little things that overwelm the whole experience

I'd love it if there was a bit of bat raising

Future versions with sledging audio - NOW WE ARE TALKING!!

Anybody else picking up quite a few computer player wickets with a shorter ball being played onto the leg stump??

Had three in one innings last night (2 from Bond, 1 from Vettori) where a short ball just outside leg stump, coming back into the batsmans legs is played straight onto the leg stump (obviously the comp. is trying to glance it fine)...........

One thing I like about the game is the fact that the crux of the whole game is the individual bowler/batsman battle for domination (almost a mini game within the game).............if the batsmans confidence goes up, the bowlers goes down and vice versa - nothing like reducing a bowler/batsmans confidence to mush and rubbing it in a little. Thus it becomes an individual battle with both parties looking to get their confidence to the maximum, whilst reducing the others to bare minimum.

........If the batsman starts to get on top of a particular bowler the shots are timed better, more power is given. The bowler in this instance becomes more erratic, and the comp. starts bowling more "no balls" (One thing that does annoy me though is that all "no balls" are slow balls!!)

........if the bowler starts to get domination (especially after a wicket) the comp bowler starts bowling great lines and gets access to the special deliveries more regularly.

Last night I had Bond steaming in at one end (he conceded about 8-9 runs in 7 overs but bowled without luck with four LBWs turned down, and a caught and bowled dropped....). At the other end I was leaking runs badly. Tuffey opened and was going for six an over, brought Oram on and he conceded 14 runs off his first over. Bought Styris on to "plug" an end, which worked, but he didn't look likely to snare a wicket. Tried Oram again at Bonds end, but he looked pedestrian as his first two balls went for boundaries.

At this stage Orams confidence was rock bottom (whilst the facing batsmans meter was full). Third ball Oram throws down an over pitched, slowish outswinger which is flashed at by the batsman off driving on the front foot. The ball takes the edge and Fleming (the only slip at this stage) takes a difficult catch falling low to his right.

Orams confidence then leaps up to near on full, and he then becomes the man trapping the new batsman LBW for 4 and becoming almost unplayable. Bond rejoins the party to attack the new batsman, but instead picks up the other well set opener whose confidence had gone down once the bowlers started to get the accendency.

Gotta love the tests.

there are many ways to bowl the AI out

but there is no set way, that works 100% of the time - if anything they are all less than 30%, (with bowling confidence full and top order batsmen) some more than others, but no real gimmie.........the tail enders however..another story

i have bowled out the AI around the legs.........but moreso the offcutter into the top of off stump

but as u said of that confidence metre - nothing truly works when the AI confidence is full............u gotto hit him with a bouncer (sacrifice some runs with short pitched deliveries), once that bouncer hits him - the roles reversed and the bowler has the upper momentum

as u said the battle within the battle depicts the ways people dismiss the AI
I barely pitch it on the stumps with AI confidence at full...it will be glanced for runs and even smashed for six eventually

I either hit them with a bouncer, or line and length for play and miss - once that batting confidence is less than my bowling.....a couple that nip back is in the mail addressed and delivered to the batsmen

One thing I forgot to mention on the negative side is the batting of the computer controlled tailenders.......far to easy to dismiss wickets 8,9, 10 (sometimes 8 can bat a little) with successive balls, usually with standard inswinging deliveries.

ah sound goes ak 47 and no doubt full on sledging might be in the next version of the game. the confrontation of batter and bowler is what the game should be about.

this game is so off the chart....

For anyone mad enough to care -

lol..

The ashes continued:

before play resumed tonight....I had been crudely dismissed for 124 off 55 overs

and Aussie were 102/3

well...

it looked set to get much worse.....but when Flintoff bent one back and sent Hayden packing finally for....

122!!!!
<

I said F**k you Gilchrist for the first time in the series and sent his middle stump reeling too...

Then my created player pulled out some funky bowling near the end and pulled out an eventual 5 wicket bag!! Wahooo! Against the aussies....so sweet...

so 2nd innings I am on the ropes still, as 1-0 down in the series I am now trailing by about 150 runs as aussie reached 270-odd...

It was time to suck it in...time to go on the attack when needed to play each ball etc etc...you know the cliches....but then, somehow, to an extent I did it!!!

387 all out off 68 overs

<

should have got more in some ways, but have made a amtch of it at least..with Aussie requiring 234 runs to win and go 2-0 up......It is the end of the 3rd day and time is little factor unless rain appears...

Got a couple of good scores against the relentless aussies..

Butcher (brought into the side) - 122 (115 balls)
Strauss - 59

and Flintoff came in at 8 and struck 80 off 35 balls with a few big uns!!!! To push over the 200 lead.

I have shut it all down and am off to bed soon (3-4 hour session..no breaks save toilet breaks....no need!!!)

I love this game.....even things that should annoy me don't....cos I'm in love!!!
<

and ak!!!! In aussie's desperation to dismiss Butcher...the AI pulled out a couple of special deliveries WITHOUT IT ENABLED....

The cheek!!

This game owns.

My brother thumped a century in our semi final 20 over one dayer against Sri Lanka....or should I say he should have!!!!!!!! hahahahahahaha!!!

In a classic multiplayer moment he ran a single early in the over and went to 99*...then I f***ed it up twice and faced dot balls!!lol,...and then I hit a six off the last ball and he got 99*.....the agony!!! Still..was village level....

Need to county everything now....

I think ak that you would find aussie tough enough on county, but you no doubt play with them, not against...

They are the only regular team with five stars yeah?

My player has only scored 60-0dd runs in the series so far....but he has taken about 9 wickets including that five wicket haul v te ozzies that has justified such a **** player being in the team in the first place!! stoked.

u r right in that the aussies are the only 5 star team

what i am doing is creating 3 players so they arent the powerhouse they are

i cant not use them...........tho cant wait to tour Australia with some other team - will be a great challenge at the SCG!!!!!!!!

1st things 1st tho

Tonite - Setup the Ashes tour, and catch-up to the 2nd test for real time comparison!!!

I have slapped 4 x 50's in a row with Gilly.............he is on fire.......my wagon wheel specialist

My create-a-player -------> ak47 - Has slapped a nice 61*............against Namibia mind you..........still - i need the stats!!!

Sri Lanka last night piled on 67 in a 10 over match last night...i had the gaunlet thrown at me..........stepped up and won with 4 balls remaining.......i'm lovin it

Seen the AI scores in ICC modes - there's been some great games.....95% of them go down to the wire........sometimes i wish i could watch these fixtures...only good games can do that!!!!!

ah good luck los and ak 47 with your games. real time ashes comparison so aus will be thumping england hard then lol

Had a great finish to my test the other night........

New Zealand vrs Zimbabwe (one off test in Zimbabwe on "hard")

To cut to the chase, in a low scoring affair New Zealand need 201 to win, with 2.5 days left to play. Weather is fine, with no chance of rain. Scoring however has proved difficult for both teams, and this will be the highest innings total of the match if New Zealand is to come through in the end........

...we join the game with New Zealand at 62 for 4, Astle and Styris at the crease.

Carrying on from a first innings top score of 56 Astle looks in fine form, and is picking up near on a run a ball. Styris after a slow start is also now starting to pick up easy runs. The partnership begins to florish, both batsmen have their confidence meters on high, and the third day pitch seems to be playing as well as it has at any stage during the game.

Second session ends with New Zealand on 94 for 4.

Batsmen come out after lunch with no ill effects of the enforced break moving the score effortlessly to 112 for 4. Then a key moment of the match occurs. Cloud cover starts to become more evident and a seemingly simple delivery from the medium pacer cuts back and raps Astle on the pads. I say to myself it isn't out, confident that I had positioned Astle enough outside the off stump to ensure benefit of the doubt. Billy Bowden sees differently however and raises his finger. Hawkeye suggests that it possibly was just touching the off stump bail - I remain uncovinced and pretty ****** off.

Oram comes to the wicket. Feeling the injustice of it all, I hit out at a widish delivery with Styris in the next over, and succeed in toe edging the ball straight to 1st slip. 112 for 4 quickly becomes 114 for 6, and Zimbabwe become heavily favoured to win.

McCullum comes to the crease, but after some playing and missing is looking far from settled. Oram is forced into a defensive role as the bowlers confidence meters go up. After the odd boundary/single the inevitable happens as McCullum hits a ball straight to mid wicket, who takes a good catch low to the ground. New Zealand are now left on 127 for 7, 74 runs away from an unlikely win.

Vettori joins the fray, and in this game he is a pretty useful batsmen. He doesn't disappoint, quickly getting into his work and running comfortably at a run a ball. At the other end Oram has been tied down, only making 8 off 25 balls.

Then key moment 2 occurs. Oram plays a lovely off drive into a pretty vacant field at long off. Nearest fielder is running for the ball from square of the wicket. Batsmen take two and three looks an easy proposition. Feilder reaches the ball and in one swift movement fires in a screamer to the wicketkeepers end..........Vettori dives but even before the replay appears I know his fate - runout by 1m. 8 wickets down, 60 runs left to get, Tuffey strides to the wicket and Bond pads up in the dressing room.

Now Tuffey in this game is a little ungamely, and it is tempting to just "go for a bash" or try to hog all the strike with Oram. However I do neither and luckly the Zimbabwe bowlers pitch all deliveries outside the off stump - negating the possible easy bowled/LBW. Tuffeys confidence meter slowly rises, whilst Oram continues to pick up singles. In between many, many "play and misses" Tuffey starts to strike boundaries, first one on the off side and then a crazy "cross bat" slog directly past the bowler for 4. He quickly passes Orams score with a 'slap' of a leg side ball over the mid wicket boundary. My confidence of pulling this off grows as Tuffey shows he can successfully survive.

Tuffey moves to 24 off 71 balls (it isn't pretty, but effective) before he finally edges a quicker outswinger straight to the keeper. Score is 173 for 9, with only Bond left to come in.

Bond quickly shows he is up for the fight, and in the spirit of Tuffey survives 3-4 LBW shouts, in between the odd single. The score creeps closer to the total. Oram cuts the ball for 4 to make it only 8 runs required. The over ends, with Bond to face the next.

Bond to face the fast bowler. Light is fading fast The ball pitches just short of a good length, just outside off stump. I decide to play a straight drive, it doesn't appear to be be threatening. The shot is played, the ball swings ever so slightly and rocks the off stump out of its foundations. TALK ABOUT ****** OFF!! Bond had made 18 and Oram remained stranded in the late 20's.

Great game though, and illustrates how well this game plays for 5 day test matches......

ah awesome stuff there and just a continuation on from where ak 47 and los were. If these stories aren't good enough to be seen as review I'm not here and not wanting this game heaps. Want more can you want than this in a cricket game. It simulates beautifuly what happens in a test without a doubt and seems so real. And now there are 3 of you contributing to the never ending review. The only thing that can make this better would be online play. Although would that be possible to do a test online or would it take to long to play. I think it would be awesomr playing against a human opponent in a test or even better mutiple humans forum tests aus v nz north hemisphere v southern hemisphere.

have any of you guys tried this tactic that I found on the codemasters forums
***********Spoiler alertt********** Spoiler Alert*************
this tactic involves the ai so could be viewed as an exploit that affects gameplay

I decided one game against the Classic XI to try something different with Warne, instead of the usual flipper, googly or whatever, I tried a bouncer. This at first hit the batsman (Grace) and sent the confidence down a notch. After this, I tried it again, he played a hook shot , edged and was caught at slip. I have done this several times now to great success (County level) and was wondering if any others have tried it and if so how to improve?

esoj...didn't read your last post...but if it contained any kind of ai exploits plse make sure there is a spoiler alert with ********** either side...thanks.

Just dropped in to say:

"I did it!!!"

I f***ing did em!!!

I managed the near series saving feat of bowling out Aussie for 213 and winning by 20 runs!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh what a game!!!!

<

When I got out Hayden there was so much emotion...so palpable....and yes it gets degrading and boring at times (I bowled 92 overs!!!!!! Yep...92 overs straight)...but that's cos there were big partnerships etc...when I got wicket I would lift etc.....cos I really earned it....so sweet.
<

It was actually done and dusted and seemed over....they were 180/3 (Langer bowled with a 156 kph Harmuison stunner for 38 - crucial), but then I dismissed Hayden for 83 and took two consecutive wickets in the next over of Clarke (bogged down for 2 from 42 balls and hit plum on the toe by harmison again!!) and Lehmann (with a cracker of a swinging slower ball that hit the base of off stump from Flintoff!!!!)....note - I have read that Flintoff can't ball fast at all....those guys don't have the skills to time the bar that's all...it is a very, very, very fine line..but he can bowl over 130kph easily.

When Harmison cleaned out the tail, with Gilchrist at the other end trying to knock off the runs but running out of partners...it was awesome....!!!

He finished stranded....

I had 2 wickets...7 for the test...

and Harmison took 6 for!! 8 for the test...

Won the test by 20 runs as I say...was very close indeed.

Test series now locked 1-1 (best of 5...of course)

Game on.

I mean match
<

awesome stuff Los and I don't think what i posted was an ai exploit as such but it is now spoilered.

Thats what i think is great about this game in test matches the resullt is never knowen and each game is different from the last. The ai gives you a true test of your skills and you just never know what might happen in the game you may have to bowl for 92 straight overs or longer. The unknowen is what will keep this game alive with people wanting to come back for more and resume battles agaisnt warne and others that they can't do in any other game
