E3 2008

Well, after seeing that Sony conference, I'm confident that my decision to flog my PS3 was the right one.



Xbox 360 is THE best console for gaming BAR NONE!!!!!!! Shame about the red ring of death though. :(

I wasn't very impressed by killzone 2 either. it sounded and looked like they were trying to do a cod 4 style like game but it just didn't seem right. Little Big Planet seemed rather good sony even did a graph using it lol.

I'll tell you what was awesome seeing though was brother in arms hells highway being demoed on a 360. that looked like one intense game and the guy demoing it even died during the demo.
the other standout for me at e3 has been fallout 3. that games looks freaking awesome.Bethesda so far seem to be doing a good job with fallout definitely one of the games I am looking forward too.


for those like me that have a wii here is at least some news coming out of e3. first up is the news dead rising is being ported to the wii from the currently released 360 game.

secondly it seems like some of the more hardcore games like zelda,pikimin and another mario game are in the works. nimayto seemed to drop some big hints in an interview

Some interesting tidbits that were released into the wild last night:
  • Bungie making new Halo ***le
    Bungie were planning to make a big reveal of their new ***le today, however they have had to pull it due to the publisher changing the plans. I dont know how these plans have got changed as Xbox 360 boss Don Mattrick confirmed to MTV Multiplayer that Bungie is working on a new Halo ***le and its not related to the Peter Jackson project. Speculate away!
  • Capcom confirm Lost Planet movie
    And indeed, as David Hayter said, David Hayter is writing it. The voice of Solid Snake is of course familiar with this line of work, having wrote the screenplay for the first two X-Men films. On the other hand, all Capcom movie tie-ins are rubbish. There is no exception. None.
  • Mega Man 9
    No real new news. I just wanted to mention it. XBLA, PSN and WiiWare you know.
  • Killzone 2 beta still planned
    More info expected at the Leipzig Games Conference in August.
  • Ubisoft continues path of Wii destruction with yet more casual minigame compilations
    More Dogz, Catz, Horsez; joined by Monkeyz, Dog Sports, Gym Rockets (gymnastics), Dance Squad (cheerleading), Adventure Riders (horse riding), ohmygodsomebodypleasejustkillmenow.
  • Ubisoft also announce I Am Alive
    Some sort of adventure game? Trailer didnt really expand on much other than its set in a ruined Chicago. Is the ruined superfluous in that statement? Just checking. Last week it was rumored Jade Raymond of Assassin's Creed infamy was attached to the project, but no mention was made of her last night.
  • Activision Blizzard blow-out
    Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2: Fusion, X-Men Origins: Wolverine (movie tie-in), Singularity (sci-fi fps), Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen (movie tie-in), Quantum of Solace (movie tie-in that also covers Casino Royale for some reason).

R.I.P PS3 lol the only thing that attracted me to the console was its exclusives. I def gonna get a console xbox360 by christmas at the latest. How much longer do you guys think these consoles will last? At least three years?
 
I'd say they'll be about for three years at the very least. If Microsoft can manage to get their paws on MGS4 I honestly, honestly think its lights out for the PS3. No price cut and you can now get a 360 and a Wii for £150.

Sony should have let go of Metal Gear Solid before Final Fantasy. The Final Fantasy is probably one of the few game franchises that can release a **** load of sequels and still will guarantee sales. This is probably due to the fact most of the sequels are not related to each other (some are in alternate universes!) and your pretty much getting a brand new rpg. However Metal Gear solid will be difficult to 'recreate' and making it feel fresh without killing off snake which would turn away hardcore fans of the series. Oh well Sony prepare to take an L. Thats what happens when you make shitty products and I should know my house is full of the **** me dads pro sony.
 
Nowt wrong with being pro-Sony, their TVs and audio equipment strike an almost perfect balance between quality and price.

Games consoles are just for fanboy fapping however, so one mans treasure...

Also, did anyone hear what Nintendo said after their conference in an interview? G4 asked something like, "How do you plan to cater to the hardcore gamers, who must feel left out at this point?"
Nintendo (Reggie, to be more specific): How can you feel left out when we've got GTA and Animal Crossing in the mix?

I'm sorry, but as much as I like Animal Crossing, a hardcore game it ain't.

That Resistance PSP game is being done by Bend Studio. Who have been responsible for the Syphon Filter series since number 3 on the PSOne. As Syphon Filter PSP is one of the few third person shooters that got decent scores on the PSP, it is slightly more interesting. Wish it was less brown mind. I hate brown.

Also looks like the PSP Valkryia Chronicles shown at the Sony event was a mistake by Sony, according to a Sega PR rep. Still PS3 only. Shame.

How about a new Sonic Unleashed trailer to make up for it?

I still maintain that Sonic Team can no longer be trusted with anything. The vocal theme and the abysmal looking were-hog parts are not helping me think otherwise.
 
I love the 2d sonic games but atm Sega is putting out too many Sonic ***les out and judging by the reviews a lot of their recent releases(minus the ds ***les)aren't that good. The trailer looks promising however Sega can not afford to have their main guy Sonic turn into a washed up mascot. Especially if they decide to ever release another console again. I actually wouldn't mind another 2d sonic using the xbox360/ps3/wii capabilities to the fullest. Sonic CD is probably the best 2d version ever. Oh yeah Sega also needs to focus more on its platforming elements like the old school sonic games instead of relying entirely on blistering speed.

I dont know, Im guessing that he is called by one of those names in Japan and the other in America.

EDIT: I looked at wiki and i think he is called eggman in Japan and in the US called Dr Robotink. I might be wrong though.

As of Sonic Adventure, Sega attempted to retcon this by having everyone but Robotnik call him "Egg Man". However, as of Sonic Adventure 2, Robotnik is officially recognised as his family name whereas Eggman is his self-appointed ***le for ruling the world under, even in the Japanese continuity.

It is, essentially, a way of making it so either name is correct.

True, a lot of games in the past were 'westernised' and a lot of the time made changes to japanese games that were unneccesary. The same could be said about anime too.

Yeh I checked out the trailer myself. Nothing can really change my opinion on the game: best thing since Half Life 2.

As for Sonic, he died for me after Sonic 3 on the Mega Drive; why Sega? Why do you keep killing his legend!? :wah:

Also, I heard Nintendo are holding a private conference sometime today. Maybe they'll announce a first party game. A decent one I mean: Pikmin 3? Zelda Wii? Kid Icarus? Whatever, as long as it's not Wii Horse-riding. <_<
