[2022 Six Nations] Scotland vs England (05/02/22)

I don't really get the Atkinson vibe people have for 12.
A lot of comments I see around him is about how he's could do a similar job to Esterhuizen but he isn't Andre and I just don't see the point of having a 31 year old who can play like a player who hasn't played International rugby in ages but a lite version of him.

Don't get me wrong solid player just find it funny people got their panties in a twist over "Farrell to help Marcus" and then those people would say "Atkinson can help Marcus as we can play a similar style to Quins with him"

Slade looked decent at 12 v SA I thought and if he can show more of that it becomes so much easier for England to have someone like Daly, Manu or Marchant sliding in at 13 throughout the game

I think it's a bad mindset if we make changes to our team to counter the Scots. If we want to be the best it's us who should be making the opposition change to counter us. We should not be deviating from what we think is someones best position to a worse position to counter someone unless it has very clear and obvious benefits. Such thinking means we are always reacting to others rather than playing our own game.
Hear hear.

Horses for Courses selections are fine, and can be an indication of strength, when selecting between 2 different but equally effective options; and selecting based on weather conditions and what your opponent would least like you to do. There's a time for playing Tindall outside of Greenwood, and there's a time for playing Greenwood outside of Catt. A time for Robinson at the back, and to put time for Lewsey there.
Equally, if they were all fit in form and sitting on 50+ caps, there's be a time to pair any 2 from Slade, Tuilagi and Joseph/Marchant.
Those are options that would make an opponent really uncomfortable.

"Horses for Courses" because we're afraid of the opponent's weapons, or because one of our options can't cope with a bit of wind and rain - now that's an admission of defeat, a clear signal of what makes us uncomfortable, and pretty much write the opposition's pre-match speach for them.

Some minor changes I would have preferred to see but that side looks like it could do the job and do it well. Happy to see Isiekwe and Itoje partnered together. Back row is a bit eh, I really rate Simmonds but would prefer him off the bench with Ford with Dombrandt working with Smith. Ludlam is solid but I've not really got the international calibre flanker vibe off him compared to others England have in stock. Still baffled at how Ben Curry just doesn't get a look at all, although I wasn't expecting it for this tournament.

For the first time in a while it feels like we are putting out a team with potential x factor players rather than just solid players. Just remains to be seen if they will deliver. I will be swearing a lot if our discipline goes down the toilet again.

Lol just checked the BBC comments for giggles and second comment I saw was Valleycommando awaiting moderation.

Just seen it. It's exactly what you would expect.

Funny i thought he would start and i think he'll have a very good game. Hes aggressive and powerful. He'll go toe to toe with the Scotland boys...
Mind he's listed as 6'4..i didnt think he was that,

It's a pretty good team. I don't have any decisions I'd strongly disagree with.

I dunno what the plan with Daly is, whether he is just there to fill space for a hopeful Manu return or whether it's his role going forward. Something to keep an eye on I guess.

No specialist wingers is interesting but probably not the overall plan, just what we've sort of ended up with after May and Watson injuries. It's not like Marchant is lacking for pace or Malins can't catch or kick

Dombrandt is the man of the moment rather than Simmonds but EJ is always talking about the need for strong 'finishers' so maybe that's where he feels like playing his top card.

Honestly the only players I would switch are Hogg, Gray for Isiekwe and possibly VDM or Russell.
