[RWC2019][Quarter-Final 2] New Zealand vs. Ireland (19/10/2019)

ALB has something in the region of ~45 test caps now? He's quite simply a complete player, and hardly set a foot wrong in test rugby.
What you say is true for goodhue though. At only ~10 caps he looks the part.
I do feel for Crotty though. for such a loyal servant to the AB's and you cant honestly say the AB's would be a weaker team if you swapped him in for goodhue.

Massive Crotty fan but that pass Goodhue threw for Reece leading up to Smith's 2nd try was absolute gold.

Beautiful set move that I'm surprised hasn't been made more of to be honest, because it unlocked Ireland's rush D perfectly. Beaudy ran a great line to hold up the Irish winger and Reece's loop was just deep enough to stay outside him. But it all hinged on Goodhue's pass.

My thoughts on the Ireland game was that that was as comprehensive a display as any side needed to come up against to put you in your place. I am left fearing for England.

The proviso would be you can only play the side that is put in front of you, and hard to fault either england or NZ yesterday, but that was one rampant looking black side.

The penalty against the Irish for leading with the shoulder into a ruck only further solidifies my loathing of Nigel "look at me" Owen. If we start penalizing players for flopping on bodies with their shoulders, then we'd be blowing it up 30 or more times a game. It's getting proposterous. Captain Obvious Alert: fellas on the deck in rugby, expect to be hit. And hit hard with boots and or shoulders FFS.

Got to say I was massively questioning the Goodhue selection, but didn't pan out to be a problem for us. Thought he was pretty good on defense, and ran hard with the ball. Listed at 100kg he does look a bit bigger than Crotty as well. Not convinced on his kicking (one good grubber, one bad), but don't really need him for that.

Do you think ALB goes better at 12 or 13?

Yes i know. I don't blame NZ. I respect them for raising the bar. It's just disappointing the other teams don't catch up.
They did catch up
On reflection it bothers me that Schmidt spent four years building squad depth only to clam up and stick with the tried and trusted. The likes of Kilcoyne, Larmour and Ruddock were putting their hands up but were ignored when it mattered.

Thats what made Schmidt a great coach to begin with. We've all heard the stories of him cutting lads (BOD, Horgan) down to size in training...he had zero respect for reputation and every player was terrified to lose the jersey. He lost that towards the end i felt. A few players got a touch comfortable playing for him.

Its what i admire most about the NZ'ers....doesn't matter who you are or what you've achieved the young kid in the squad wants your jersey and is always trusted to do the job by management. In this part of the world we value 'experience' far too much.
expwriwnce does matter to the all blacks, just not on the wings. For wings acceleration, pace, agility, and exuberance are more important. Goodhue has been picked ahead of experienced midfielders, sure, but that's just about finding The best partner for our best player - alb.

Yep, and that's One of the reasons why goodhue is there. His conventional passing game compliments Albee's offload game

Yep, his hard running is the other reason he is there, another thing we want to compliment alb. Alb had a quiet game but I think him at 12 gives our best combo, with alb able, if needed, to make something happen closer in. He made the right decisions not to get involved, and also played a part running decoys. No doubt the Irish were watching for him, so the role he played was the right one.

thats what im worried about the most (and cards), but this is England. getting up should be easy to rise to that occasion, even if its mountain big. hoepfully the English fans will sing thru the haka and then it'll be all on!!
Funny how no one has mentioned the Irish singing through the haka

We need to get some new threads up.

SH Arrogance vs NH Arrogance

Hope it stays that way. Non event as far as I'm concerned.

Fans (teams too for that matter) should be entitled to respond however they like without getting criticised for it. We're way too precious about the haka IMO.

i loved it, the team steering it down with how many thousand fans singing behind them, reminded me of school games when we would all stand in goal behind the first XV (including Richie McCaw) and do the school haka to rev the team up

I like it when the Haka is challenged, it adds extra impetus to the start of the match.
the best and most tense was 2011 when the french, led by dusatoir marched into the ABs faces. that was awesome

i dont know, the welsh (2008) steer down when the two teams had to be told to turn around was pretty good, gutted we turned away first

tialata was on fire that day
best leaders imo have been buckShelford, taineRandell and PiriWeepu
and tana the first time kapoOPango was done was just all intense emotion and mana

taine was particularly awesome cos he took his time and just commanded the situation. its too rushed these days

nice to see some love for Taine, he was a good bloke too, saw him down the Dunedin clubs rooms a few times, was not unusual see see him there after highlanders/otago or the odd All Black game

Taine wasn't an 8 or an ABs captain but he was an awesome blindside. He got screwed over unintentionally by hart then majorly intentionally by Mitchell.
Mitchell was and still is a prick. I hope he gets the England gig.
Taine could lead a haka tho smooth calm and in control. Mucho mana

come home schmidt. and when youre ready you can take over one of the super franchises or be brought into the ABs fold as a specialist coach.
but first relax recharge and enjoy your time with your family. that is paramount for someone who has emptied the tank coaching Ireland over this 6 years.
NZ rugby is happy to wait until youre ready

I'd like Foster to take over. Joseph to come in as assistant, then taking over when Foster retires.
Robinson to do a stint overseas then return for an assistant job to Joseph, then Robinson eventually becoming head coach.
I think that's a good line of succession and also I'd like Tony Brown as backs coach at some point.

I like and respect Joe a lot as a coach, but he played a fairly safe brand with Ireland, couldn't see that working out for us.

Cotter ain't a bad shout either.

ianFoster and razorRobertson have both named tonyBrown as their preferred assistant coach
