[RWC2023] England vs Samoa (07/10/2023)

I hope "not experimental" means the players who have been performing best are playing rather than it meaning Billy V at 8 and Farrell automatically at 10. Also Curry to ever so slightly brush against the face of a Samoan player and get red carded because consistency.

Curry needs to start. He's had 3mins of rugby in months.

Experimental means selecting form players in their specialist position. So… no

id probably say Farrell is the form 10 if we're going off the previous season.saracens winning the premiership with him at 10 would suggest he was the best 10 in the league.I thought last season he was probably saracens best player along with maybe earl.he certainly played ford off the park in the final.I know people will say he hasn't particularly performed for England but who has??Does this not mean he is the form 10?🤷‍♂️

It will be
Genge Dan Stuart
Itoje Chessum
Lawes Billy Curry
Mitchell Faz
Manu Marchant
Arundell Stewart May
George
Marler
Sinks
Martin
Earl
Youngs
Ford
Lawrence

Thats my prediction.

I don't think Mitchell starts, but other than that I think that's quite likely

Still wouldn't put it past Borthwick to go 10/12 Ford/Farrell, though

I think this is the first World Cup game when SB has the whole squad available to pick from. It will be very telling what he does.

Ford has been great in parts but also too kick happy in others (but is that coaches tactics).

Farrell has been out but still captain, he's also still not proven his England form with this team yet (as he hasn't had a chance).

I'm stuck between thinking SB will go sensible with Farrell Manu Marchant or if he's fascinated by the idea that getting both 10s on the field will create some magic (it won't Steve by the way). Then you end up with Ford Farrell and maybe Manu (whose probably been our worst centre out the 3 and the only one not playing 13 at his club.

Will be very telling anyhow.

Assume the team will be announced as late as possible for no real reason.

Announcing the team as late as possible is of benefit to England. If as you suspect England may go with ford and Farrell then surely giving Samoa the least amount of time to prepare for that scenario or at least keep them guessing on the England line up is a plus for England.Personally I think he will go ford/Farrell/manu and it's probably England's best option especially if they hopefully get to the semis. They will need to play in the oppositions half and play for territory for that game and two kickers/playmakers is probably the best option to do that.

Seeing a lot of people moaning that we are deliberately leaving team announcements as late as possible. I may be wrong but all our announcements have been made 48 hours before kick off. So we will know the line up by 16:45 Thursday 5th. The Ireland team should be out by 20:00, and the Wales game by 14:00*.

*Wales have unexpectedly announced their line up early.

Samoa don't have to release their line up till the same time as England.

Most tournaments require team announcements for each match to be made no later than 48 hours prior to the match, so you should be able to get this information on match day -2.

The announcement is usually made by the submission of the Match Team Sheet to the Tournament Press Officer.

You'll need to get hold of this document and make plenty of copies so that you can circulate it to all relevant parties at the venue tomorrow.

The numbering of players, including replacements, on the Match Team Sheet is to be done according to the World Rugby Regulations regarding the numbering of players (1-15 for players starting the match and 16-22 for replacements, in order of positions with the lower numbers being front row replacements and the higher numbers being outside backs).

Yep, these complaints have been happening for a while now - because people are used to 3.00 KO times, and team announcements around lunchtime 2 days previously.
So complaints were going in that it was reaching early-lunch and still no announcement.

Ennit, we've always announced our sides at the "latest" (read: usual) time
South Africa and Wales (under Gatland, at least) release theirs early, that's their decision to do so - doesn't mean everyone else has to
